Know who is who
Four parties, four different jobs.
Overseas employment from Bangladesh is a regulated process, and most of the trouble people run into begins with not knowing who is responsible for what.
The employer abroad
Issues the demand letter and the job offer, and sets the salary, the hours and the length of the contract. Everything else follows from that document.
The licensed recruiting agency
Only an agency licensed by BMET may recruit workers for overseas employment. Its licence number is a matter of public record, and it can be checked — so it always should be.
BMET and the government
Registers you, issues the clearance and smart card you cannot legally depart without, and runs the pre-departure orientation you are required to complete.
Qafila BD
Your travel and documentation desk. We prepare and check your papers, arrange attestation and the medical, follow the clearance through and book your ticket. We do not issue job offers.

From the offer to the aeroplane.
Ten stages, in the order they actually happen. Knowing what comes next is the simplest protection there is.
Step 01
The job offer and demand letter
The employer abroad issues a demand letter and a job offer stating the role, the salary and the length of the contract. Read it carefully before anything else happens.
What you will need
- Demand letter
- Job offer or draft contract
- Passport copy
Step 02
Check the recruiting agency
Confirm the agency holds a valid BMET licence and that the demand letter is registered against it. If anyone resists that question, stop right there.
What you will need
- Agency licence number
- Office address
- Printed receipt book
Step 03
Read the contract properly
Salary, working hours, overtime, accommodation, food, air fare and who pays for what. Have it explained to you in Bangla, and keep a signed copy of your own.
What you will need
- Employment contract
- A signed copy for yourself
Step 04
Passport and personal documents
A machine-readable or e-passport with enough validity left, along with the identity and education documents your particular job asks for.
What you will need
- Valid passport
- National ID
- Birth certificate
- Education or skill certificates
Step 05
Police clearance
A Police Clearance Certificate is required for most destinations and it takes time. Start it early rather than discovering you need it at the end.
What you will need
- PCC application
- Passport copy
- Recent photographs
Step 06
Attestation
Education and experience certificates usually need attestation by the relevant ministry and then by the destination country’s embassy in Dhaka.
What you will need
- Original certificates
- Attestation fees
- Passport copy
Step 07
Medical examination
A fitness test at a medical centre approved for your destination. The result is only valid for a limited period, so the timing of it matters.
What you will need
- Passport
- Photographs
- Medical centre fee
Step 08
Visa application and stamping
The employer or agency files for the work visa, and your passport is stamped once it is granted. Nobody can promise you this outcome in advance.
What you will need
- Passport
- Medical report
- Attested documents
Step 09
BMET registration and clearance
Registration, the clearance smart card, welfare board membership and insurance, and the pre-departure orientation you must complete before you fly.
What you will need
- Visa-stamped passport
- Signed contract
- Welfare board fee
Step 10
Ticket and departure
The ticket is booked around your joining date, and you travel with every document in your own hands — the originals included.
What you will need
- Clearance smart card
- Air ticket
- All original documents
Stages, timings and requirements differ by country and by employer, and the rules change. This is the usual shape of the process — not a substitute for what BMET and your recruiting agency tell you about your own case.
Protect yourself
Before you pay anyone.
Almost everything that goes wrong for Bangladeshi workers abroad was visible before departure. These are the signs to watch for, and the habits that prevent it.
Walk away if you hear this
Any single one of these is reason enough.
“The visa is guaranteed” — nobody can guarantee a visa, ever
“Pay in cash now, the receipt will come later”
“Just sign here, the contract is only a formality”
“Give me your passport, I will keep it safe for you”
“Go on a visit visa and change it to a work visa over there”
“Never mind BMET, we have our own arrangement”
Do these every single time
However well you think you know the person.
- Check the recruiting agency’s BMET licence number for yourself
- Take a receipt in your own name for every taka you hand over
- Read the contract in Bangla, and keep your own signed copy
- Keep your passport, and photocopy every document you hand on
- Complete BMET registration and the orientation — both exist to protect you
- Tell your family the agency name, the employer and where you are going
Documents to bring us
Bring these and we can tell you exactly where you stand in a single sitting.

Where people go
Destinations we support most.
These are the routes our desk sees most often. Which countries are actually open to Bangladeshi workers shifts with government agreements and employer demand — we will tell you honestly what is moving at the moment.
